Bernard Peak at Bayview Idaho for mountain goat viewing
There are many very special places in our area for you to visit. This page offers  ideas for  unique adventures.
If you visit Sandpoint between November and January, look for bald eagles, they are  abundant at that time of year.   Edward, the eagle, can often be seen perched in a tree at the north end of the Long Bridge.
Bernard Peak Mountain Goats

Spring and Fall are the best times to view the mountain goats on the steep cliffs across from Bayview.  They are best seen from a boat or with high powered binoculars.  While you are in the neighborhood be sure and check out the town of Bayview.  Bayview resembles a modern Venice with all the float homes lining the shores.  To get to Bayview, take Highway 95 south from Sandpoint approximately 15 miles to the Bayview road on the left.  Proceed down this road 7 miles and stay left at the fork to reach Bayview.  Farragut State Park is about a mile south of Bayview.

The Idaho Centennial Trail

The Idaho Centennial Trail runs 900 miles from the southern border of Idaho to the Canadian border north of Priest Lake.  The trail cuts across Highway 95 just north of Sandpoint in the MacArthur Lake area.

Kootenai Wildlife Refuge

This 2,774 acre refuge is located 5 miles west of Bonners Ferry.  The refuge provides habitat for canadian geese, wood ducks, mallards, tundra swan and many other migrating water fowl, and moose, deer and elk.  There are foot trails throughout the refuge.  The short but steep Myrtle Creek Falls trail starts just past the visitor center.
The refuge can be accessed by taking Riverside Street west.  Riverside Street runs along the Kootenai River and lies on the north end of downtown Bonners Ferry.  208-267-3888

Moyie Falls

The breath taking Moyie River Canyon and Falls can be viewed from the bridge that spans the 450' canyon.  From Bonners Ferry go north on Highway 95 to Highway 2, then east to the bridge.

Roosevelt Grove of Ancient Cedars and Granite Creek Falls

The Cedar trees here are up to 12 feet around and 150' tall.  A short trail at the grove will take you to Granite Creek Falls, one of the most dynamic falls in Idaho.  Take Highway 57 north from the town of Priest River to Nordman at Priest Lake, then continue for 13 miles to Roosevelt Grove.  Highway 57 becomes Forest Service Road 302 past Nordman.

Bird Aviation Museum and Invention Center

Pilot and inventor Dr. Forrest Bird and his wife Pamela, opened an aeromedical museum.  The 16,000 square foot museum has historic planes and vintage automobiles, mannequins in period clothing and other items of interest.  The Imagination Room holds information on important inventions.  The museum is open from the end of May to the middle of October, Monday through Saturday and is open October 6 through the end of May by appointment.  208-255-4321
